Multiple brands and models of above-ground pools sold since the 2000s have been recalled in Canada and AmericaÌýafter reports of nine children drowning between 2007 and 2022 in the U.S.Ìý
Compression straps on the side of the pools may create a foothold allowing small children to crawl inside, leading to drowning risks, Health Canada wrote in the public advisory.
Brands recalled include Bestway, Intex and Polygroup pools in nine models, specifically those 48 inches or taller. The Bestway models were sold between 2008 and 2024, the Intex ones were sold between 2003 and 2012 and the Polygroup pools were sold between 2006 and 2025.Ìý

About 266,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, Health Canada said. A list of all affected models can be read.Ìý
Although there have been no reports of injuries in Canada, there have been nine children between the ages of 22 months and 3 years old who have drowned from 2007 to 2022, according to Ìýby the Consumer Product Safety Commission.Ìý
“Consumers should immediately determine if their pool is part of the recall, and if so, contact Bestway, Intex or Polygroup to request a repair kit,” the advisory continued, urging customers to make sure children no longer have access to the pool.Ìý
