Former Markham youth sports coach facing additional sexual assault charges

The accused, who has previously taught youth basketball, tennis and volleyball in the GTA, is now facing charges related to a 1994 incident, police said.

More victims have come forward with allegations about the former youth sports coach since police appealed for information earlier this summer, investigators said.


A former youth sports coach from Markham is facing additional historical sexual assault charges, with one of alleged incidents dating back to a little more than 30 years ago, York police said.

In June, Garth Morris, 58, was charged with multiple offences, including sexual assault of a person under 16, sexual assault and sexual exploitation. A victim reported the alleged sexual assaults began in 2017 — when they were under the age of 16 — and continued until 2021, according to police.
