Man arrested after 67-year-old woman found dead near Hwy. 401 in Pickering
A man was charged with aggravated assault on Wednesday before officers found the woman’s body just after midnight Friday. Police said the suspect was in a common-law relationship with the woman.

A man has been arrested after his common-law partner, a 67-year-old woman, was found dead in Pickering early Friday morning.
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ police say they were working on a missing persons case nearÌý on Wednesday that wasÌýquickly deemed “suspicious,”ÌýDet. Sgt. Phillip CampbellÌýtold reporters at a news conference Friday evening.Ìý
That same day, officers charged a man for aggravated assault in connection with the missing person though the body wasn’t found until midnight Friday in the areaÌýÌýin Pickering, near the border of Scarborough, Campbell said.Ìý

Investigators are not looking for any other suspects and the coroner is still working to identify the victim, according to Campbell.Ìý
“I know we say this all the time, but this is very early in the investigation,” Campbell said. “This matter is now before the courts, and with the investigation still active, there are limits to what we can disclose.”
Campbell said he is hesitant to share many details out of respect for the victim’s family.Ìý“We want to be mindful of the victim’s family who are grieving a profound loss.”
He said the woman was reported missing in ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ and was located in Durham Region. Campbell added the suspect, who was in a common-law relationship with the victim, is providing police with “some information” that officers are investigating.Ìý
Police have not yet publicly shared the suspected cause of death.
A police spokesperson declined to provide more information about the exact location where officers found the body.
“We ask for patience as investigators continue their work,” said Campbell.
