A ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ man took a stolen Sea-Doo from Sarnia, Ont., into the United States on Saturday, police said.Â

Officers say they were alerted a few hours later around 9:40 p.m. when the 40-year-old man missed his scheduled return time of 7:45 p.m. at a watercraft rental place. He allegedly gave the store several “questionable excuses” as to why he was late, claiming he was only 10 minutes away.Â

Investigators said they commissioned the help of surrounding police forces and the Canadian Coast Guard, and the multiple agencies set out to search the waters but couldn’t find anything. ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ police were also tasked with making a residence check in the city, the news release continued.Â
The U.S. Coast Guard eventually found the Sea-Doo on the American shore just after midnight, along with a shirt the suspect was last seen wearing, a life-jacket and the keys to the vehicle, according to the release.
U.S. Customs and Immigration are now investigating what officers believe was a successful illegal border crossing.
Sarnia police have issued warrant for the ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ man who is wanted on one charge of a theft of a motor vehicle.
