BALTIMORE (AP) — George Kirby pitched seven three-hit innings, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 on Tuesday night for their eighth victory in a row.
Seattle pulled within a half-game of AL West-leading Houston, with the Astros playing at Boston on Tuesday night. Josh Naylor’s RBI single in the first inning was all the scoring the Mariners needed.
Kirby (8-5) struck out seven without a walk. Eduard Bazardo and Gabe Speier worked the eighth, and Andrés Muñoz labored through the ninth for his 28th save in 34 chances.
The Orioles had the top of the order batting in the ninth, but Jackson Holliday grounded softly to the pitcher and Jordan Westburg struck out swinging. Gunnar Henderson walked, and then there was a lengthy delay as Muñoz was tended to on the mound. He eventually took a drink from a cup — as the crowd booed — and then Adley Rutschman singled.
Ryan Mountcastle came within a few feet of giving Baltimore its first walk-off win of the year, but his drive to left field curled foul. He then hit a routine grounder to the shortstop.
Dean Kremer (8-9) was a hard-luck loser after allowing a run and five hits in eight innings.
REDS 6, PHILLIES 1
CINCINNATI (AP) — Brady Singer pitched six shutout innings, Spencer Steer drove in three runs and Cincinnati beat NL East-leading Philadelphia, halting the Phillies’ four-game win streak.
Singer (10-9) gave up three of the Phillies’ four hits, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. The 29-year-old right-hander faced the minimum of 17 batters over the first 5 2/3 innings with the only hit allowed being a single by Nick Castellanos, whose grounder deflected off the glove of shortstop Elly De La Cruz. Castellanos was erased on a double play in the fifth.
Bryce Harper spoiled the Reds’ shutout bid with a two-out homer, his 18th, off Sam Moll during a downpour in the ninth inning.
Ranger Suárez (8-6) gave up a season-high 10 hits and six runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two.
GUARDIANS 4, MARLINS 3
CLEVELAND (AP) — José RamÃrez became Cleveland’s leader in multi-home run games with a drive to right field in the eighth inning as the Guardians defeated Miami.
RamÃrez had three hits and Kyle Manzardo also went deep as the Guardians won for the sixth time in seven games.
RamÃrez, who snapped an 0-for-12 skid with a solo shot in the first inning, lined a cutter from Calvin Faucher (3-3) just over the wall in right field with one out in the eighth to put Cleveland back on top.
It was the 27th multihomer game of RamÃrez’s 13-year majors career, surpassing Hall of Famer Jim Thome and Albert Belle for the franchise lead. It was also his second this season.
Cade Smith (5-4) threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.
YANKEES 9, TWINS 1
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his first homer in nearly three weeks, Giancarlo Stanton had his first four-hit game in nearly two years, and Carlos Rodón allowed one hit in seven innings as New York routed Minnesota.
Stanton went 4 for 5 for his first four-hit game since Aug. 24, 2023 against Washington. He doubled in his first at-bat, homered in the fifth and singled in his final two at-bats before getting lifted for a pinch runner following a two-run single.
Rodón (12-7) allowed a leadoff single to Austin Martin and cruised after a 31-pitch first inning. He became the first Yankee to complete seven innings since the left-hander pitched eight against the Cubs on July 11.
The Yankees won their third series since the All-Star break and won the first two games of a series for the first time since sweeping Seattle July 8-10.
Adams allowed four runs and four hits in 2 1/3 innings.
BLUE JAYS 5, CUBS 1
TORONTO (AP) — Ernie Clement and Daulton Varsho homered, and ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ became the first AL team to reach 70 wins by beating Chicago.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had three hits as the AL East-leading Blue Jays (70-50) improved to 23-11 against NL opponents.
The Cubs have dropped five of seven. In those five losses, they scored a total of six runs.
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ right-hander José BerrÃos (9-4) allowed two hits, both singles, in 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He walked four and struck out three.
Pitching in front of a season-high crowd of 43,003, BerrÃos won his fourth straight decision. He is 7-1 with a 3.62 ERA in his past 10 starts.
Starting for the first time since Sept. 25, 2024, at Philadelphia, Cubs right-hander Javier Assad (0-1) allowed four runs and eight hits in four innings.
METS 13, BRAVES 5
NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Alonso broke the Mets’ franchise home run record, going deep twice and knocking in three runs as New York beat Atlanta.
Alonso’s first homer, a two-run shot off Spencer Strider (5-10) in the third inning, was his 253rd. , who had held the team mark since 1988. Following the homer, the Mets displayed a graphic on the scoreboard with the number 253, alongside pictures of Alonso and polar bears in honor of the slugger’s nickname.
Alonso homered again off Austin Cox in the sixth for his franchise-record 25th career two-homer game, three more than Strawberry.
Brandon Nimmo hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fourth for the Mets, who snapped a seven-game skid with just their second win in 13 games. Francisco Alvarez also homered twice and Brett Baty also went deep as New York moved within five games of NL East-leading Philadelphia.
The Mets hit all six of their homers with two outs, tying the mark for a single game in the expansion era.
ROYALS 8, NATIONALS 5
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Vinnie Pasquantino doubled, homered and drove in five runs as Kansas City topped Washington to reach the .500 mark for the second time since mid-June.
After a two-out, third-inning walk by Maikel Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr.’s infield hit, Pasquantino hit Mitchell Parker’s first-pitch fastball into the second row of the right field stands, a few feet inside the foul pole, expanding Kansas City’s lead to 4-0.
Pasquantino opened the scoring with a first-inning sacrifice fly and capped the Royals scoring with an RBI double in the seventh.
Jonathan India’s two-run homer extended Kansas City’s lead to 7-2 in the sixth.
Michael Wacha (7-9) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings, his sixth consecutive start permitting fewer than three runs.
Lucas Erceg earned his second save with a hitless ninth.
BREWERS 14, PIRATES 0
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Sal Frelick and Brice Turang homered off Paul Skenes, and the Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-0 on Tuesday night for their 11th consecutive victory.
Christian Yelich, Andrew Vaughn and Caleb Durbin also went deep as major league-leading Milwaukee improved to 27-5 in its last 32 games. Freddy Peralta (14-5) pitched six innings of three-hit ball in his second straight win.
The Brewers’ 11-game winning streak is their second of the season and the second-longest in franchise history.
Skenes (7-9) permitted four runs and six hits in four innings. The ace right-hander struck out four and walked two.
It was Skenes’ first loss since July 11. He allowed a total of four runs in his previous four starts.
Coupled with , Milwaukee increased its NL Central lead to 7 1/2 games — the largest cushion in the majors.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Kyle Freeland gave up five hits in a season-high 7 1/3 innings, Hunter Goodman hit a home run, and Colorado beat St. Louis to snap an eight-game losing streak.
Freeland (3-12) walked two and struck out two in his longest outing since a career-best 8 1/3-inning outing on July 9, 2017 against the Chicago White Sox.
Victor Vodnik pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his third save and clinch the Rockies’ second shutout of the season after they blanked the Cardinals in Denver on July 23.
Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore (6-10) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in four-plus innings after striking out the side in the first inning and retiring the first nine batters he faced.
DIAMONDBACKS 3, RANGERS 2
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Ketel Marte’s solo home run to deep left field with two out in the ninth inning gave Arizona a win over Texas.
Marte’s homer off Danny Coulombe (2-1) followed consecutive strikeouts of Jose Herrera and Geraldo Perdomo. Perdomo’s was the fifth looking for Arizona among 11 strikeouts, after which manager Torey Lovullo protested and was ejected by home plate umpire Nate Tomlinson.
Jalen Beeks (3-1) pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings followed in the ninth by rookie Juan Morillo, who earned his first big-league save.
Marte also drove in the seventh-inning run that tied the score 2-2 following two Rangers infield errors.
The Diamondbacks, 6 1/2 games out of the NL wild-card race, have won four of their last five games.
Texas starter Jack Leiter allowed four hits in five innings, one of them being Blaze Alexander’s solo home run in the third.
Diamondbacks starter Anthony DeSclafani allowed both runs in three innings in his fourth start of the season in 11 appearances after being signed in mid-June.

HOUSTON (AP) — Alex Bregman homered against his former team for a second straight game and Carlos Narváez added a three-run shot to lead Boston to a win over Houston.
Dustin May (7-8) scattered five singles across six scoreless and struck out eight in his second start since a trade from the Dodgers.
The loss drops the Astros into a tie with Seattle for the AL West lead after the Mariners beat the Orioles 1-0 for their eighth consecutive win Tuesday.
Bregman, who is playing in Houston as a visitor for the first time this week, hit another two-run home run Tuesday night after hitting one in his first at-bat in . He spent his first nine seasons with the Astros before signing with the Red Sox this offseason.
His homer came after Narváez slugged a three-run shot as Boston scored five runs with two outs in the sixth to push the lead to 7-0.
Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti (1-3) struggled with command in his second start since missing four months with a broken right thumb. He allowed just one hit and two runs, but walked a career-high five in five innings.
WHITE SOX 9, TIGERS 6
CHICAGO (AP) — Yoendrys Gómez struck out seven in five innings, Edgar Quero had three hits and three RBIs, and Chicago scored five runs in the fifth inning in a win over Detroit.
Detroit starter Jack Flaherty and Gómez (1-1) traded three scoreless innings before Wenceel Pérez broke through for the Tigers in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Kerry Carpenter.
Chicago tied the game in the fifth inning on an infield single from Curtis Mead that drove in Kyle Teel. Colson Montgomery also had a two-run single in the inning. Brant Hurter took over in relief of Flaherty (6-12) and walked in another run.
The White Sox loaded the bases again in the sixth inning, and Codi Heuer walked Andrew Benintendi to score a run and make it 6-1.
Dillon Dingler hit a two-run shot over the right-field wall to get two back for Detroit.
Quero put the Tigers away with a solo home run in the seventh inning that put the White Sox up 7-3. Quero also hit a two-run single in the eighth.
Mike Vasil gave up three runs in the ninth inning before Jordan Leasure earned his fourth save of the season.
PADRES 5, GIANTS 1
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer in the second inning, Jackson Merrill connected in the eighth for insurance, and San Diego beat struggling San Francisco.
San Diego moved into a first-place tie with the Dodgers in the NL West race after — a position Padres manager Mike Shildt expected his club to be for the season’s stretch run.
Jake Croneworth contributed an RBI single in the fourth and Jason Adam (8-3) worked out of a bases-loaded jam by getting the final two outs of the sixth for the win.
The Giants dropped their fourth straight game and Ray’s winless stretch reached seven starts since beating Arizona on July 3 in Phoenix. The lefty allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings, struck out four and walked one.
San Diego’s Nestor Cortes struck out six with one walk while giving up one run and six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
ATHLETICS 6, RAYS 0
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Jacob Lopez struck out nine in seven shutout innings and Colby Thomas and Lawrence Butler each drove in a pair of runs as the Athletics beat Tampa Bay.
Lopez (5-6) allowed four hits and did not walk a batter. The 27-year-old left-hander retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced. Tyler Ferguson (2-2) pitched a scoreless ninth and earned his second save.
Thomas had an RBI double in the second inning and knocked in another run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Also in the fourth, Butler hit an RBI double and added an RBI single in the eighth. The Athletics scored two more runs on an error and a wild pitch.
Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz (8-9) matched Lopez early before allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits. He finished with seven strikeouts and two walks
ANGELS 7, DODGERS 6, 10 INNINGS
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani lined into a triple play in the sixth inning and hit a tiebreaking homer in the ninth, but the Los Angeles Angels rallied for a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Jo Adell’s walkoff single in the 10th.
The defending World Series champion Dodgers fell into a first-place tie with San Diego atop the NL West after their third consecutive loss.
Ohtani put the Dodgers up 6-5 when he homered in his fourth consecutive game, crushing a cutter from Kenley Jansen for his NL-leading 43rd.
He also rebounded smartly after being involved in . Shortstop Zach Neto caught Ohtani’s liner up the middle, stepped on second to get Miguel Rojas and threw to first, where Nolan Schanuel tagged out Dalton Rushing.
The Angels rallied in a drama-filled ninth. Luis Rengifo singled and scored on Schanuel’s sacrifice fly before Ben Casparius (7-5) struck out Taylor Ward with the bases loaded.
After Connor Brogdon (3-1) pitched a clean 10th for the Angels, Christian Moore moved Ward to third with a bunt single. Adell ended it with a high chopper that got over the Dodgers’ drawn-in infield.
