After a day of sun and a night of fireworks to celebrate the nation’s birthday, temperatures in the city will be back in scorching territory this week, hovering around the high 20s and low 30s, according to a forecast from Environment Canada.

With temperatures for some days this week forecasted to be in the low 30s, with the humidex putting temperatures around the mid-30s, Environment Canada says the potential for a heat wave is there.Ìý
“Since both the humidex and real temperature are part of the criteria for heat waves, we’re keeping an eye on it,” said Environment Canada spokesperson Alexandra Cournoyer, though temperatures for the week aren’t expected to hit that criteria, she added.Ìý
While Environment Canada has not forecasted the humidex after Thursday,ÌýCournoyer says the humidex will be high on the weekend as real temperatures are expected to reach 30 C.
The weather agency last issued a heat warning for ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ and most of the province on June 22, as temperatures reached “dangerous” levels.Ìý
The city hit a high of 34 C on June 22, with the humidex value breaking an all-time record in ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ after a sweltering 46 was recorded at Pearson International Airport.ÌýHigh levels of heat and humidity continued into the following days, with temperatures reaching 36 C on June 23 and 35 C on June 24.

A mix of sun and cloud will usher in the weekend with a 30 per cent chance of showers on Saturday. The high will be 30 C and the low will be 20 C, with the chance of showers remaining into the night.Ìý
