“We have several dogs who have been with us for over 100 days, and we’ve been promoting them, and they’re amazing pets,” animal services representative Elana Trainoff said, pointing to not-yet-homed pups like Chico and Timmy.
The patriotic campaign hopes to turn heads on the heels of Canada Day, Trainoff added.
Normally, adoption fees can range between $185 to $215 depending on the dog’s gender.
Trainoff said the shelters have waived fees in the past and had success with adopting pets needing homes. But she added that the adoption process remains the same and staff will still meet with candidates to vet them and ensure they’ll be a good fit for the pet.Â
Anyone interested in adopting an animal can take a look at the , though Trainoff says the animals listed change daily, sometimes even hourly. If potential pet parents are interested in an animal, they can call the shelter to book an appointment, meet the pet and then fill out an application.
“These dogs really need homes,” Trainoff said. “There’s some really incredible dogs available.”
